Q: What are the causes of wrinkles?
A: Lines and wrinkles are caused by degenerative changes in the proteins of the skin’s infrastructure such as loss of stored antioxidants and reduction in collagen. As a person ages the epidermal cells become thinner and less elastic. The decreased health of the skin cells looses the effectiveness of the barrier function allowing moisture to be released instead of being kept in the skin. This causes dryness. The number of epidermal cells decreases by 10% per decade and they divide more slowly as we age making the skin less able to repair itself quickly.

The effects of aging on the dermal layer are significant. Not only does the dermal layer thin, but also less collagen is produced, and the elastin fibers that provide elasticity wear out. These changes in the scaffolding of the skin cause the skin to wrinkle and sag. Also, sebaceous glands get bigger but produce less sebum, and the number of sweat glands decreases. Both of these changes lead to skin dryness.

Q: What are the causes of age spots?
A: Age spots are also known as sun spots, liver spots (they are unrelated to the liver or liver function) or lentigines. Age spots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. Sun spots mostly appear in areas consistently exposed to sunlight such as the back of the hands, the forearms, neck, chest and face. The pigment producing cells in the skin (melanocytes) are stimulated to produce more pigment when exposed to ultraviolet rays.

Q: Are your products natural or organic?
A: Our products are not all 100% natural or organic. However, all JL Skincare products are free of ingredients such as fragrances, dyes, SLS, lanolin, alcohol, and other chemicals. There are ingredients in many mainstream skincare products that have the potential to lead to irritation of your skin, as well as pigmentation problems or the development of dark marks.

You will notice on our ingredient lists that the majority of the ingredients are organic, and most products are formulated with over 90% organic ingredients. However, since it’s not 100%, we’re not able to certify the products as organic. We strive to provide the most effective products on the market while using as many natural ingredients as possible. We never cut costs for cheaper ingredients.
