Key Ingredients

FRESH-ACTIVE Vitamin C (l-ascorbic c): Key to the production of collagen, vitamin c aids in the growth of cells and blood vessels and gives skin its firmness and strength. Vitamin C also helps your skin repair itself
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that slows the rate of free-radical damage — free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. New research shows that ascorbic acid not only neutralizes free radicals, but also reverses DNA damage.
Research suggests that vitamin C may also be proactive and reduce the effects of sun damage caused by exposure to ultraviolet B radiation and prevent the consequences of long-term sun exposure, which can lead to skin cancer [sources: University of Maryland Medical Center, Bouchez]. This doesn’t mean you can apply topical vitamin C and then bake safely in the sun, but you can help keep your skin healthy and supple by applying your daily, anti-oxidant C Rejuvenation Serum protection treatment.
Niacinamide: Vitamin B3 improves skin moisturization and helps to enhance the barrier function of the skin. Helps promote even looking skin tone with calming anti-inflammation benefits.

Vitamin E (tocopherols and tocotrienols): Vitamin E’s benefits stem from its antioxidant qualities. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects and repairs your skin. Antioxidants are agents that neutralize the oxidant effect of free radicals, which are molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. The atoms that comprise your body try to maintain an even number of electrons — that’s what makes them stable. If an atom has an uneven number of electrons, it will steal an electron from another atom to become stable. When your skin takes a beating from outside factors, such as the sun’s ultraviolet rays, your body can produce free radicals. Free radicals are atoms with an uneven number of electrons, and when they form inside your body, they steal electrons from healthy cells like the ones that make up your skin. This can cause a damaging chain reaction, and that’s where beneficial antioxidants like vitamin E are needed.

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and prevent cellular damage from occurring. Vitamin E is one of the most powerful antioxidants. The really exciting part is that synergistic C+E formulated in C Rejuvenation Serum means that each of these super star antioxidants benefits are more powerful when combined together than alone.

Retinol Palmitate (vitamin A): Lipid-soluble vitamin A helps smooth dry, thick and rough skin by enhancing exfoliation. Helps even skin tone.

Ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10):  Ubiquinone another name for CoQ10 is a potent antioxidant naturally produced by the body and important to cell functioning and development. Ubiquinone naturally decreases with aging, and it is forumalted in JL’s Fresh-Active C Rejuvenation Serum as an anti-aging ingredient that enhances some of the natural antioxidant produced by the body. When applied topically, Ubiquinone is thought to penetrate the skin easily, and reduce free radical damage via its antioxidant properties. It is also been found to assist cells in building collagen and elastin, therefore reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Ubiquinone also has properties that allow it to prevent or reduce oxidative damage to tissues, and may be more effective than Vitamin E at preventing this damage (TheMayoClinic). The processes of aging and photoaging are associated with an increase in cellular oxidation. This may be in part due to a decline in the levels of the endogenous cellular antioxidant coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone, CoQ10). Therefore, we have investigated whether topical application of CoQ10 has the beneficial effect of preventing photoaging. We were able to demonstrate that CoQ10 penetrated into the viable layers of the epidermis and reduce the level of oxidation measured by weak photon emission. Furthermore, a reduction in wrinkle depth following CoQ10 application was also shown. CoQ10 was determined to be effective against UVA mediated oxidative stress in human keratinocytes, activation of specific phosphotyrosine kinases and prevention of oxidative DNA damage. These results  indicate that CoQ10 has the efficacy to prevent many of the detrimental effects of photoaging.

Ferulic Acid: This plant-based antioxidant neutralizes free radicals, inhibits UV-induced melanogenesis, and has anti-inflammatory properties. As a potent antioxidant ferulic acid has skin benefits when used alone however, skin care related studies of ferulic acid focused on its ability to enhance the effects of vitamins C and E. Preliminary research indicates that ferulic acid may improve the stability of Vitamin C in water solution. Also, the addition of ferulic acid to the combination of vitamins C and E appears to increase protection from UV-induced skin damage. The addition of ferulic acid to C Rejuvenation Serum’s vitamin C + vitamin E formula almost doubled the anti-oxidizing, anti-aging benefits.
